Kestrel Ultimate Bait Finesse System Baitcasting Reel
Built with a full magnesium alloy body and weighing only 4.6 oz, this reel delivers ultra-light performance that is 30% lighter than aluminum alloy, without compromising strength. Its Mg-Shielded TM coating enhances resistance to corrosion, scratches, and everyday impacts, ensuring long-lasting durability and a clean finish over time. Compared to carbon fiber, the structure is 55% more rigid, offering greater stability under load while remaining effortless to handle. The result is reduced fatigue during long sessions and reliable performance in harsh conditions, combining lightweight comfort with reinforced toughness in one design.
The Feather Spool III features an ultra-thin 0.2 mm wall thickness—making it the thinnest and lightest spool in the world—paired with a titanium alloy main shaft, bringing the total weight down to just 3.8 g/0.13 oz. Despite its ultra-lightweight construction, the spool maintains excellent line capacity through its optimized 28 mm outer diameter design, while delivering lower rotational inertia and faster startup performance. Its featherlight, ultra-rigid construction minimizes starting resistance, allowing anglers to easily cast lures as light as almost 1/64 oz / 0.5g. The spool delivers precise, low-trajectory casts and gentle landings, giving full control over the lure’s flight path. This enables effortless precision and extended casting distance with light baits, making it perfectly suited for finesse fishing.
For the Kestrel Ultimate, KastKing developed Ultra Slide TM bearings specifically for the spool ends, while the rest of the reel uses MaxiDur double-shielded ball bearings. This high-precision 9+2+1 bearing system minimizes rotational resistance and energy loss, allowing lighter lures to cast farther and with greater accuracy. Rigorous testing and advanced engineering ensure unmatched smoothness, consistent performance, and long-lasting durability, delivering precise, effortless casting in every scenario.
The FAF (Flyout Arc Finesse) Braking system was designed specifically for finesse fishing. Two half-ring magnetic brakes automatically adjust to slow down the spool when braking is needed to prevent backlashes. As the speed of the spool decreases, the magnetic field inside the spool diminishes and the magnets retract to maximize casting distance. There is also an external fingertip brake adjustment dial for fine tuning spool speeds for smaller baits.
Featuring upgraded self-engineered Axis Eye line guides, this reel reduces friction by 8% compared to the previous generation thanks to low-friction, high-thermal-conductivity materials and precision polishing. The smoother design enhances casting smoothness and minimizes line wear, allowing lighter lures to cast farther while protecting the line and extending its lifespan.

As a content creator, specializing in BFS Bass Fishing, I am completely astounded on everything this reel is capable of doing, from the smooth cast down the the spool, this reel was built to perfection. A must own and now completes the kestrel lineup for any angler.
Sweet Finesse Reel
Great rod and reel feel. Works great and after one day of use I found myself using this one in places I didn’t need too. I bird nested twice all day but it was because the way I threw it I noticed.
I wasn't expecting...
The reel is actually quieter than my other BFS setup. Not sure if anyone else cares about that, but I noticed it almost immediately. Smooth going out. Smooth coming back. Hard to complain
One thing I don't see many people mention is how comfortable this reel is after several hours of fishing. I was on the water almost all day Sunday and never felt like I was fighting the reel or adjusting my grip. It's compact without feeling cramped, and the handle has just enough resistance that it feels connected when you're working small baits. Little things like that matter more than spec sheets.
Well...
I told myself I didn't need another reel. Turns out I was wrong.
Great
I honestly think the Kestrel Ultimate is one of the best BFS reels I’ve ever used. I own several high-end JDM BFS reels, and I was honestly surprised by how well this reel performs. In some situations, I actually feel it outperforms my Aldebaran BFS. When casting lighter lures around 1/14 oz, the Kestrel Ultimate is extremely impressive, the casting distance is excellent. One of the features that really stood out to me is the Axis Eye Line Guide. The design is incredibly clever. As far as I know, besides the T-Wing system, this is one of the only rotating, widening line guide designs available. 12
Honestly Surprised
The Kestrel Ultimate honestly surprised me. The casting performance with small finesse baits is excellent, and the reel feels incredibly smooth. I’ve been throwing 1/16 oz and lighter lures for trout and panfish, and this reel handles them with no problem. The line guide system is also a really nice touch. It’s a small detail, but you can tell a lot of thought went into the design.
This was my first KastKing BFS reel, and honestly I didn't know what to expect. After a few trips, I'm impressed. It's lightweight, smooth, and casting small hard baits is much easier than with my regular baitcasters.
Finally got mine on the water. No complaints at all. Light, smooth, and ridiculously fun to fish.
I've been fishing BFS for about two years now, and the Kestrel Ultimate has quickly become my go-to reel. The spool starts effortlessly with light baits, and I haven't had any issues throwing 1/16 oz jigheads. It feels refined without being overly complicated.
Bentrod never disappoints
This is the reel master chief would keep in the wart hog if he were a fisherman. Love the all around feel and this reel is a real workhorse. I have several in my line up. So versatile for braid mono or fluoro. Price point is on point as well. Truly affordable innovation whether you are new to baitcasters or well seasoned like myself.
FAQ
The Axis Eye Line Guide is designed to rotate during the cast, reducing the angle between the line guide and the spool. When casting lightweight lures, this creates less friction as the line leaves the spool, allowing the lure to start more easily. The result is smoother line flow, improved casting stability, and greater casting distance with finesse presentations.
No. The Rotating Axis Eye Line Guide is one of KastKing's most advanced technologies and is patented in both the U.S. (Patent No. US12557801B2) and Japan (Patent No. 7628325), making the Kestrel Ultimate one of KastKing's most advanced finesse baitcasters. Made from a highly polished, low-friction ceramic material, it reduces line friction by 8%, helping increase casting distance while also reducing line wear.
The All-Magnesium Body consists of three major components: - Magnesium frame - Magnesium gear side plate - Magnesium palm side plate Unlike reels that combine carbon and aluminum components, the fully magnesium construction delivers greater rigidity, improved structural strength, and tighter tolerances. This enhances gear alignment and provides a smoother, more precise feel under load.
Yes. To protect the all-magnesium body, it is covered with the Mg-Shielded coating, which helps prevent oxidation and ensures long-term durability.
The Kestrel Ultimate eliminates the traditional spool tension knob because the spool-to-frame clearance is factory pre-set to less than 0.2 mm for optimal performance. This simplifies the setup process by allowing anglers to adjust only the FAF braking system, eliminating the need to fine-tune spool tension. The streamlined design not only reduces complexity but also improves consistency and manufacturing precision, making it easier for anglers of all experience levels to achieve accurate, controlled casts right out of the box.
Yes, it can cast a 1/64 oz lure, while also handling heavier finesse applications. The key lies in minimizing spool inertia and casting friction. The 0.13 oz Feather Spool minimizes startup inertia, while the Ultra Slide™ bearings provide an ultra-smooth casting experience. Together, these features minimize casting resistance and help achieve effortless light-lure casting.
Yes. Although the Kestrel Ultimate is designed for finesse fishing, its all-magnesium body and 13 lb max drag provide the strength needed to handle larger fish with confidence.
